Managing emotions
Another training within the Corporate University PA School was held on November 27 in Moscow. It was devoted to The Prophylaxis of the Job Burnout, Emotions Management, Positive Thinking and Self-motivation. The training was conducted by the school manager Anna Shevtsova.
– Stress is the natural biological mechanism which protects the human body and psyche, – says Anna Shevtsova. This mechanism is activated with the increase of physical and psychic pressure, like threats, aggression, negative attitudes of other people. Stress works properly to fulfill its protective function, and everything is under control until the condition becomes chronic. Sometimes people don’t remember the reasons which triggered the stress mechanism, but still they find it difficult to come back to normal.
What is the way out?
Here are some recommendations from Anna.
The first way to reduce stress is physical exercise. Even a simple change of a static position for an energetic walk will decrease tension and help manage your daily workload. So, make sure you take turns in doing intellectual tasks and physical exercises.
Another good way is a short invisible warm-up right at your work place.
First, straighten your back and shoulders, gather in your stomach. You can do it in any position – sitting or standing – where stress has found you. As a rule, stress bends the person changing his body posture, makes him go limp, stick out the belly… So, by straightening your body and gathering yourself up you will remove one of the stress consequences.
Now sit quietly for a minute with your eyes closed. Stop thinking about your problems, shift your thoughts to the way you look. Remember stress can also uglify your face. Now switch your thoughts to your face, relax it, take off that strained and hurt look. Run your tongue across your teeth several times, then, moisten your lips. Put your hands on your forehead pressing slightly. Slightly tap your cheekbones, rub your temples.
Put your hands on your lap, relax them, take several nice long deep breaths. Then lock your hands and breathe deeply again. Take off your shoes, and quietly knock the floor with your feet.
Use your palm edges to knock on the hard surface. The amazons practiced this exercise – those were the warriors who knew the secret of managing stress and keeping the high morale.
Apart from all mentioned above learn to enjoy life, make effort to notice attractive and beautiful things around. When walking or jogging try to pay attention to something that surrounds you. Let it be the source of positive emotions for you which will help you cope with the job burnout.
