Comprises 5 disciplines:

Meteorology 22 hours
Air Law 18 hours
International Flight Rules 38 hours
Radiotelephony 72 hours
General and Aviation English 120—360* hours

* Number of hours on General and Aviation English depends on the candidate’s initial level of English

The language course is followed by the ICAO Language Proficiency Test. The Certificate issued upon the test results reflects the assigned Language Proficiency level

Course duration to maintain Operational level IV is 1 month/150 hours;

Course duration for level improvement is 2 months/252 hours (per level)

The course program addresses the language skills to be assessed according to the ICAO language proficiency requirements – pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, interaction.

The language course is followed by the ICAO Language Proficiency Test. The Certificate issued upon the test results reflects the assigned Language Proficiency level.

The course program focuses on the technical vocabulary and structures used in documents and operation manuals for different aircraft types. It addresses the need of type conversion and helps to communicate effectively with airport personnel.

Course duration:

  • 3 weeks/90 hours
  • 4 weeks/130 hours

For Maintenance Personnel

The course program focuses on the technical vocabulary and structures used in documents and operation manuals for different aircraft types. It addresses the need of effective communication with airport personnel.

The course program grades for different levels of language proficiency.

  • Grade 1 goes for ICAO level I (Pre-Elementary) – no knowledge of the English language and for ICAO level II (Elementary) – the knowledge is limited by several learnt phrases.
  • Grade 2 goes for ICAO level III (Pre-Operational) – vocabulary and grammar structures are enough to communicate general messages. Lack of technical English vocabulary.

Course duration for each grade is 180 hours/30 days.

The course program focuses on extending technical vocabulary, mastering the language skills to deal with documentation, airport personnel and inspection personnel.

Course duration:

  • 2 weeks/60 hours – for maintenance personnel servicing Russian-manufactured aircraft at international airports;
  • 3 weeks/90 hours – for maintenance personnel servicing foreign aircraft.

Aviation English for ATC Controllers

Aviation English Course for ATC graduates of Civil Aviation educational institutions will help them get ready for language proficiency test in compliance with the ICAO language proficiency requirements.

Upon the course completion students can sit the English Language Proficiency Evaluation Test (ELPET) and get a certificate of their language proficiency level according to the ICAO scale.  Testing and assessment is conducted by qualified examiners and raters from The Aeronautical Institute.
